Lately, I’ve heard the term “girl boss” circulating around Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, you name it. At first, I was turned off by the term. At first glance, it feels like a phrase that should be printed on a glittery pink t-shirt in JCPenney’s tween department. But if you really think about it, it’s a pretty great title. Finally, a word to describe the women who are constantly defying expectations set for them, taking control of their lives, and making real differences. It’s like being a superhero in your day-to-day life, the women who never skimp on the important things.
Below I’ve comprised a list of my top 5 favorite apps for women who are ambitious, organized, and ready to tackle the day (or at least attempting to be these things–which is honestly me a good 95 percent of the time).
1. Fitness for Weight Loss by RedRock Apps
This app is by far my favorite for organizing and encouraging at-home workouts. Sometimes, it’s just too difficult to get out to the gym, but you still want to be active 5 days a week. Looking up a routine on YouTube is always an option, but with Fitness, you’ll be able to set a goal, a problem area, and the amount of days a week you’re able to commit to working out. Then, the app will craft a unique workout for you each day, gradually building in difficulty and time. The best part is that on each workout, the app shows you demonstrative videos of the workout move you’re doing, so it’s easy to follow along and isn’t overwhelming.
The MinimaList app is the perfect app for the girl boss that likes to keep an organized to-do list. I used to keep my list of things to get done in a note on my phone, but I often forgot it was there, plus it was hard to tell which items I had finished. With MinimaList, nothing is complicated and everything is efficient. When you open the app, the first thing you see is your list making it easy to visualize what you have planned for the day. You can even customize a task to include a time for it to be done, and when you’ve finished it, just swipe right to mark it completed. The app also offers a timer setting so that you can tap a task and set an allotted amount of time to complete it. Knock off everything on your list with this easy-to-use, girl boss-approved app.
3. Simple Habit
The Simple Habit app is perfect for girl bosses who want to get a little more in touch with their mental state or just need a break from the chaos and stress of reality. This app offers guided 5-10 minute meditation sessions on a variety of different subjects from specialists around the world. Using the meditations on the app, I have felt so much calmer and prepared for my day just by taking 5 minutes to myself when I wake up. The app is free, however it does offer the option for more specific meditations for paid subscribers. Regardless, the easy to use format makes it a great way to become introduced to the art of meditation. Truly the best way to sit back from your daily conquests and take some personal time!
Calling all beauty-lovers! Eve is the perfect way to discover new beauty looks, trends, or savvy DIYs. This app offers in-depth tutorials on everything from an on-the-go office look to a Kylie Jenner-inspired face of makeup. With a simple tap you can save any post that you want to try out later, and there’s even a tab for the core basic beauty techniques that you’ll want to master. Each post also links every product used, allowing you to save it to your own wish-list should you want to add it to your collection. You’ll never have to worry about lack of beauty inspiration again with this app in your back pocket.
Last but certainly not least . . .
This app might just be my favorite of the whole bunch. As an avid user of my Fitbit and Apple Health apps, when I found out I could be paid to log my fitness (something I was already consistently doing) I had to find out more. The Achievemint app syncs with any compatible fitness apps on your phone as well as your social media (meaning it’ll track if you post anything fitness related) to award you points. These points go towards earning you REAL money! Once you reach 10,000 points, you’re awarded $10. Just for logging your food or taking the extra flight of stairs at work. Girl bosses gather round, who wouldn’t want to get paid for being fit?
Being a girl boss certainly isn’t easy, but these apps are sure to soften (or reward) the load. If you enjoy/use any of these apps, please be sure to leave a comment and let me know!
Until next Monday…
